The City is encouraging all gardeners to show off their hard work and beautiful landscape by entering the 2011 Water-Wise Naturescaping Contest. The deadline is Aug. 12.

“Regardless of the weather, naturescaping is a great alternative landscape method because it has the ability to adapt to the unpredictable summers in Red Deer. In particular naturescaping is very effective in conserving water,” said Bailey Doepker, environmental program specialist for the City.

The 2011 Water-Wise Naturescaping Contest is open to Red Deer citizens who naturescape residential properties located within city limits. Entries will be judged on water conservation, landscape design and biodiversity. All entries must be located within Red Deer city limits, and the contest applies to residential property only.

The application form has been updated. Make sure to check out the new easy to complete application form, which includes a minimum of five and maximum 10 colour photographs. Digital or hard copies are acceptable.

A couple of sentences describing the water-efficient features within the landscape should also be included.

Entries and photographs may be submitted to the Environmental Services department at the Civic Yards; please mark entries “Attention: Naturescaping Contest.”

Entries may also be emailed to environmentalservices@reddeer.ca. Entry forms are still available on the Environmental Services section of the City’s website at www.reddeer.ca/envservices.
