CELEBRATION- Hundreds gathered to recognize award winners during the Awards of Excellence in Housing & President’s Gala

Local homebuilders honoured at annual gala

Sorento Custom Homes Ltd. took the top honours for Builder of the Year – Large Volume at the Canadian Home Builders’ Association – Central Alberta’s Awards of Excellence this past weekend.

The Awards of Excellence in Housing and President’s Gala took place May 7 at the Capri Centre, with more then 500 guests attending. The event recognized the region’s best in home building and community development.

“I think it’s a mix of really good customers, the best trades guys in the business and the best staff in the business,” said Sorento Custom Homes Ltd. owner Mark MacLeod after winning his award. “This is something we really appreciate.”

Sorento Custom Homes Ltd. also won for Best New Home Between $495,000 – $549,000 and Best New Multi-Family Home — Town House/Duplex Style under $199,999.

Larkaun Homes won for Builder of the Year – Small Volume.

“I truly have to give credit to our staff at Larkaun Homes. They truly make this happen and they go above and beyond.”

Altogether there were 21 awards handed down, including Renovator of the Year (Platinum Homes); Supplier of the Year – Large Category (Communication Group Red Deer Ltd.) and Supplier of the Year – Small Category (Audio Innovations).

B&B Cowie won for Trades of the Year (Small Category) and Gilmar Construction Ltd. took home the award for Trades of the Year (Large Category).

Platinum Homes won for Best Renovation over $100,000 and Homestead Custom Carpentry won for Best Renovation up to $99,000.

The Red Deer-based Association represents more than 160 members organizations involved in home building, land development, remodeling, multifamily construction, property management, subcontracting and other aspects of the residential construction industry.

Originally established in 1956 as a chapter of the Housing and Urban Development Association of Canada (HUDAC), the local association has grown to currently grown to 160 plus member organizations.
