Red Deer RCMP continue to investigate the circumstances around the discovery of a suspicious package at approximately 4:30 p.m. Tuesday evening.
City of Red Deer Fire and Emergency Services staff attended the scene, located at 7627 49th Ave. in the Key Towing compound. The area was cordoned off to the public, and RCMP evacuated neighbouring businesses as a safety precaution. The RCMP Explosive Device Unit believe the item was likely a homemade explosive device and neutralized it without incident at approximately 9 p.m.
As the investigation is in its preliminary stages, RCMP do not have more information to share with the public at this time. RCMP thank the public for their cooperation in staying clear of the area while the EDU team completed their work and ensured the safety of residents.
There is no further risk to the public. Red Deer RCMP thank the public for their patience while the situation was resolved.
